Suspension tire q???

New stock, not urethane. I made the the mistake of installing polyurethane bushings, and all it got me was a chance to drop the rear subframe out of the car a second time. New stock feels great, is dead quiet and will never squeak. -
All the camber fix in the world means nothing if the trailing arm is flapping around under torque or lateral load.
TABs make more difference than you would ever think!Leave a comment:

Old and worn out rear trailing arm bushings will increase rear tire wear, but the main problem in this case is the camber gain from the lowered ride height of the H&R Race springs. New RTAB's (be they urethane or OE) will help, but the only real fix if the springs are to be retained is camber plates up front and eccentric RTAB's or weld-in cambe/toe adjusters in the rear.Part of the issue is squishy ass old bushings.
How do I know? I had the same issue.
I put Urethane bushings in the rear and am now getting 2X the tire life.
I will be doing the adjustable camber/toe kit in the rear and camber plates up front...but my goal is damn near stock alignment spec.
Scalloping of the tires is most commonly caused by worn out shocks. When used with H&R race springs I'd guess on a life of no more that 40k for a set of Bilstein Sport shocks.Leave a comment:

camber does not cause high tire wear . toe is the culprit. either way you need to jack it back up to get rid of toe (which will remove camber too), or weld in toe adjusters only and dial out the toe but retain the camber . if you want to get rid of camber , weld those in too and adjust.Leave a comment:

camber plates are like 200.
you can just get extra spring pads in the rear and maybe space the front if you're super cheap.Leave a comment:

I didnt decide on the H&Rrace. They came on the car when I bought it 2 years ago. Tires are just getting expensive!
I do love the look of the car, but tire cost is killing me. Robbie what do camber plates typically run??
and thanks for the offer bud youve helped me out more than once!Leave a comment:

because he likes the way the car looks how low it is.
You need camber plates like said above. We have them at the shop for a good price or you can order online thru a couple different companies. If you buy them i can help you put in the fronts, but i have never welded in the rear stuffLeave a comment:

Yep. You will have to dial out camber and rear toe, which you can do either by raising the car up, or getting adjustable gear (rear subframe spacers or weld-in adjustments, camber plates up front).Leave a comment:

Neg camber causes wear on the inside of the tires. You get that from running springs so low. If you don't track the car why go with H&R Race? Get something taller that won't cause such neg camber.Leave a comment:

Raise the car or get camber plates for the front and weld in tabs in the rear.
You will lose the JDM hella tyte neg camber look. But that's the point.Leave a comment:

Suspension tire q???
Car:
1990 325i
suspension: Bilstien sport/h&R race. Car does have front and rear sways.
Wheels: millie miglia 16's and im running adapters so they fit.
My car eats through tires like no other. I go through a set every 8 months (8-10xxx miles). I do not track the car, or go crazy with it. Its a DD and I bought it with the suspension already done. I love the way it looks and would like to keep the same look.
Ive tried getting alignments done but shops say its b/c of my suspension. There is definite scalloping in the wear pattern, and the tires only wear on the inside edge. Is there any way to correct this so I dont eat tires like crazy...or is a different suspension the only way to go?
thanks guys!Tags: None
