    coilovers worth it?

ive been pondering back and forth about getting a suspension and i dont know if i want a set of springs with a good drop or get some height adjustable coilovers....

they only plus to coilovers i feel is that in the winter i can raise her back up.....

my real concern is are the coilovers worth the rediculous amount of extra money they are compared to a cup kit.....thanks

the cup kit is crap, honestly.

coilovers arent that expensive. a perch kit with springs is 350, figure another 500 for konis or revalved bilsteins. unless you're racing the car in a class that doesnt allow c/o's, do it.

cup kit = soft cup of crap

and that is false. you can spend only a little money, like $120, and completely change your rates F and R, making it stiffer or softer, or changing the balance.

And you can corner balance with coilovers.

And you can change the height for looks as you desire. Rake, or no rake. No having to buy different spring sets just to get it right.

I plan on doing coilovers eventually. apparrently GC fits the ix with no problems, but I'm sticking to my H&R as long as this car is my daily driver. I'm more interested in adjustability (for winter ride height) than crazy spring rates, although being able to swap to whatever rate you like is a bonus.

If I were to buy GCs again, I'd get something like 200/350 rates, and live happily. These things hurt.

The adjustability kicks ass though, I must say. I've changed the height 4 times in the past 2 weeks, it's almost fun now.

you do realize that's only a hair above the stock rates don't you?

with a linear spring at that rate, you'll risk bottoming out and smashing your oil pan/lip .. not to mention you'll have worlds of body roll

Buy a Camry. It rides nice and soft. :P

I realize that the 200 front rate is slightly above H&R Sport, and quite a bit stiffer than a Pro-Kit. I know for example such kits as the Bilstein BTS are 126-153 at the front, so my 200 linear is still better off than that. Even at their stiffest points, these street oriented kits never reach 200lb/in.

Hurt? I wouldn't say stiff springs go as far as hurting... best I'd describe it is that it will get boring sooner or later.

                      Jay quit your bitching.

475/625 isn't even that bad with shitty Bsports. I don't want to drive it daily anytime soon, but it's survivable.
