Anyone here using pillowball top mount for the rear????

I made a couple of set and fitted a pair on mine and it changes the turn-in characteristic of the car.

    Sorry no photos yet...

The difference which I can feel so far is that the rear leans faster during cornering and it in turn make the car turn in faster at the corners. I supposed this is due to less restriction of absorber strut movement when cornering... and oso easier to induce powerslide :D

Anyone here with rear pillowball topmount can add in your feedbacks too...

The correct term is a "pillowblock" and they're usually used on rotating shafts such as on conveyor belt shafts, etc. I wouldn't think they would hold up that well considering they're typically used with radial loads and, in your application, you're applying axial load. Just my .02....

Really, the correct term is "spherical bearing". ;) Pillowball is just more JDM.

EDIT: BTW, where do you get those? I am very interested in hitting up a set.

The correct term is indeed spherical bearing..

I have been using the same bearings for my front camber plates....

it's basically the same kind of bearings using for camber plates the GC ones are smaller though...

What makes those better than solid rear mounts?

What I meant was, what makes them better than traditional mounts like GC or JTD.

They are better because they are more precise - metal does not give like urethane or rubber. But there is an increase in NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness). It is one of those trade-offs. Plus, you will have to replace the bearing once in a while - especially if driving around town.

If you are looking for the least expensive route, and the least NVH, go with the E46 Cab mounts - for a little more money, go with the JDT or Ground Control Mounts. For all out, but more NVH, go with solid mounts. You can get them from lots of sources (TC Kline, Ground Control). It is just different parts for different car uses.

BTW - BMWCCA Club Racing (Stock Class) and NASA Spec E30 do not allow solid mounts like this - I have JTD on my E30 because of this. BMWCCA Club Racing allows solid mounts in Prepared, Modified and Super Modified....if that factors in.....
