    Power steering delete

Alright, I can't find a solid answer on this. Some say that the lines have to be looped, I need to get a power steering delete kit, or I need to drain the ATF fluid from the rack---

The other day, I removed the power steering belt because my rack leaks. That's it! The rack is internally greased so... do I really need to take other steps to preserve the integrity of the rack or is it G2G?

A r3v member (silence) I know locally from South Florida machines up custom Power Steering Deletes. It essentially loops the rack, and it is run with fluid.

You can always de-power the rack using the Flying Miata guide though, which removes all fluid from the rack, giving a freer, easier steering feel.

I've ran my rack empty for a couple years now with no bolts in the holes. It's great (2.7 z3)

I run no fluid and a PS delete block. The block is overpriced. You can run it as Dominic said, but there is a risk that debris will enter the rack. I advise looping a line, or making/buying a block.

I completely drained my system and looped a hose.. Works just fine, my drift car is setup this way... super cheap/ghetto way to get it done!

one super cheap solution for not looping is to use stock bolts but to put a small piece of hose over the bolt first to act as a spacer and to cover up the holes in the bolt.

Does anyone have any input on the steering effort increase with the power steering delete? I'm looking to do it but live in an area where I'm constantly parallel parking.

I would just leave it how it is. Mine leaked like crazy so I just took the belt off. Haven't touched it after that. That way if you ever want to swap in a good rack the pump and hoses are still there.

Gotcha. I suppose I should go beltless first to make sure I don't mind the car without it anyway. Thanks for the input.

I ran my car without a belt for a couple years then finally removed everything else. There was no change in effort. I just sealed the holes completely, no block or looping or anything and i can assure you there is no harm in this. I didn't have to remove everything but i was getting sick of looking at it all and it only took about a half hour. Parallel parking really isn't bad either, but your not gonna do it one handed.

Did all the fluid leak out of your rack or something? I noticed a huge difference when I went from belt removed to a looped setup. It was much harder to turn with just the belt removed.

hmm, I must be he-man or something, but I took the belt off my 318is and it was pretty damn enjoyable. Even parralel parking was a breeze
