Want to go slightly lower on my GC coils. Input on methods?

I have my front coils spun all the way down but If I could get as little as 1/2 inch lower I would be happy as a clam. I have three ideas on ways to do this.

    1. Weld my perch 1 inch lower and trim my bumpstops.

    2. Buy 1inch shorter springs and trim my bumpstops.

    3. Shorten my housings and get short body shocks.

    Gentlemen?

Option 3 is the preferred method of going lower on the e30 chassis, and the only way I would personally go about it.

Take the front adjuster out completely. Just make a new lower perch for it.

Ya im starting to look into what I would need for the shortened strut housings. What shocks do most people use?

Corrado inserts up front (GC Koni's would be perfect). Honestly, just take the adjuster out. That will give you an extra 1/2" drop or so. No need to change shocks and shorten housings ($$$)

              ^This is incorrect.

The problem is not physically getting the car lower it's that, in doing so, the full height struts will likely bottom out be ruined. Shortening the stack height of the spring by lowering the perch, removing the adjuster, buying shorter springs, or cutting the springs he currently has, all have the same flaw. He'll be trying to ride well beyond the capabilities of his current strut assemblies.

That's understood but he just wants an extra 1/2". Some "full length" shocks are shorter than others as well (there's a short version Koni SA for E30's). So you can't make the assumption that he'll blow the shocks if he lowers the car another 1/2". I'd try it first before dropping the money on the GC Short bodied Koni's.

I'm not assuming anything. It's not the full length inserts that are holding him up, it's the full height housings. Without shortening the housings you gain no advantage by having the shorter shocks. By further shortening the springs assembly without modifying the housings he'll be 1/2" closer to bottoming out the strut.

If I were to go the shortened housing way would I run into issues with the adjuster being too close to the wheel/tire?

Depends on the width and offset of the wheel that's mounted.

I'm running a 16x7 with a final et of 25 and beefy tires. I have no issues with interference.

So by shortening the strut I will be moving the adjuster closer to the wheel right?

Yes, the spring seat will likely end up closer to the wheel,

or you could keep the same clearance by running a shorter spring and re-weld the spring seat the same distance from the hub as it originally was.

The beauty in the GC setup is you can configure it to your needs with different strut modifications and spring/shock combos.

Do they sell the springs in different lengths? I was browsing their site and did not come across any. I was reading up on the Corrado,IX short strut methods and there were so many conflicting arguments it made my head hurt.

Ground Control is an Eibach retailer they have, or can get, whatever ERS springs you want. Assuming of course that you know what you want.

The entire 2011 Eibach ERS spring catalog can be viewed/downloaded at the link below.

Eibach engineers, manufactures, and sells the highest quality performance aftermarket suspension products in the world.
