    bilstien strut thread stripped??

Ok so i just took off my bilstien shocks/struts. Everything came off fine with the exception of one thread. I don't know if it was installed wrong or if it was bad threads from the factory. These came off my convertible which the previous owner had installed a lot new suspension parts. Then blew the motor 500-1000 miles later. So I guess I wanna know what you guys think.
Anyone else have this problem? It's just weird that only one thread was screwed up of all the stuff i took off... I called bilstien they could care less and told me since I'm not the original purchaser they will not stand behind it even if it was there fault... Anyone re-thread these? Thanks for any and all help.

I would just run a die over the threads and clean it up.

The threads are long gone. I think you may be screwed. It looks like someone used the wrong nut on the strut, and not the nut that is included with the Bilsteins.

Or they ran it on cross threaded with impact gun, ignore my last post, now that I see the pic, buy a new one. Bilstein may put a new shaft in for you but time and cost vs new may not be worthwhile.

I suppose you could try to rethread it for a smaller nut though.

You'll have to cut new threads with a die.

Sweet this means the fronts H&R Races are off. :D I'm getting butterflies.

On topic: I vote carefully run a smaller die across them.

Should only be $10 to have Bilstein put a new shaft in it, call up their service department.

I would say that even if the threads weren't stripped that shock is bad. From what I see in the picture it isn't extended as far as the top shock, which would mean that it is bad.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Bilstein will not warranty improper installation but will repair the strut. Since you might be sending it in send them in pairs and have them re-valved to the say the springs you plan to use.

these have at the very most 1,000 miles on them I doubt they are bad. but if they are then I really have a problem with bilstien. It seems like everybody loves them. Not me my car felt sloppy with these and the h&r races...
And how can a strut be bad with 500 miles on it? bad quality? it was installed the same as the other one. I don't know but I'll never buy anything from them again. Ground Control and Konis for me for now on...

Sloppy maybe because the nut was not holding the strut firmly in-place.

deception is in the picture. look where the threaded lock nut meets the strut tube on the bottom strut. they're probably extended the same length.
