    Spring Compressor

Thinking about getting a spring compressor since I plan on doing more suspension work soon, but dont know how much to spend or where to get one. What's a good bang for the buck?

    Rent one from Kragen/O'reily.
Full cash deposit is given back upon return.

The Craftsman ones work great and are fairly cheap. Plus, you'll get to loan them out to all your friends when they need to do their suspension ;-)

Can rent or buy from pretty much any auto parts store. Will cost around $50-70 and most places if you rent it is a full return like said before.

I rented one and the threads were messed up, so I just ended up buying a brand new one. I had some stuff to return anyway and only paid $18 after all was said and done so that's how I justified it. lol

That Craftsman is a decent setup, got one at Advance auto a few yrs ago with the u-bolts instead of the hooks, feel safer. Done about 20 strut inserts with it for $45, good deal IMO.

If you dont feel like trying to rip kragen off (which i frequently do) you can buy mcpherson spring compressors online or in the store from "Harbor Freight"

Seen the grey ones break TWICE, be ware. I bought those red things since they looked easier to use than the old fashioned acme thread type, threw them in the trash.

If you have ever seen what happens when a compressed suspension spring - that suddenly becomes un-sprung - you will be ware of your safety when using cheap tools.

Come up off the 50 bucks, or loan your 50 to the parts store while you be safe. Just my
