If you have brand new rear Bilstein Sports in the box, I need your help

If you have brand new REAR Bilstein sports just hanging out in a box somewhere, could you please do a test for me?

Compress the damper 100% and then time how long it takes for it to return to the fully extended length. Do this test a few times and report back with the measurement in seconds.

    Thanks much all :)

Call Bilstein and ask what the time should be?

They said they don't have data on that. Probably for good reason, I just wanted to use the info as a benchmark.

^Because real tuners use a shock dyno, that's why.

i'm not tuning anything, i'm checking general condition of a set of used struts I have.

if you want to send me a shock dyno, i'd be glad to use it

How long does yours take to rebound? Also, the rebound isn't the severely important aspect. The compression firmness is much more of an indicator to a bad shock.

                  Mine takes about 6 seconds.

Koni sports used to have a spec for rebound when adjusted to full stiff. I know it's not the best way to determine damper health, but it can weed completely blown struts out pretty easily.

Well when I had a blown bilstein and new bilstein in my hand, they both rebounded over the same duration. The difference could be felt when compressing the damper and comparing.

What was the difference you could feel? I have a set of ~300k mile Bilstein Sports in my DD, and I compared them to my ~5k mile set, and the rebound seemed the same, but the high mileage set was actually harder to compress. I don't know what that means though...

The blown shock took less force to compress. I'd say it was about 75% of force compared to new.

Weird. I can't believe after 300k hard miles my Bilstein Sports are still good as new.
