help on suspension for a nub

i have a 1987 2 door 325 and i am looking to replace the springs and struts. i was wondering what i should take into consideration when doing this. if you could explain this to me indepth cause i am new to the scene. and i will be doing all the work my self. and if youcould reccomend some brands that would be appreciated

note: the is errors in my spelling. if you cant read it make it up.
