      I thought the top nut was a self-locking so it doesn't need to be super tight. Am I wrong?

        I had the exact same issue Jim described when I first did my suspension. In my case improper alignment caused the spring to bind on the hat. I also found that it took a little time for it to go away, seeming as if all the new components needed to be broke in so to speak. Getting a proper alignment will help a bunch too.

          Ok I will get an alignment and see what happens from there. but i also was going to look for an e36 or z3 steering rack before i align the car.
