    Ground Control on ix

My brother just bought an ix and unlike me he wants to put a GC set up on it. I know there was talk about a GC rep who knows what has to be done in order to run GC's on an ix. Anyone know this guys name and what does have to be done to make it work?

just tell him not to slam it too much, the biggest advantage is the ability to run stiffer springs and adjust ride height. Not so much being able to slam the car. What you need is, ix koni's and gc springs and perches other than that its just the same as a normal e30. Call them for spring rates the ix is heavy compared to other e30's cept cabrios.

Alright thanks guys. Nando you said he was a dealer, has anyone ever done business with him before?

Another question I have is could GC set up their Koni's for an ix?

The install is exactly the same, get spring rates that are a bit front stiffer to compensate. If it's just a street car mainly, say 425lb/in front and 475lb/in rear.

GC probably wouldn't revalved a set of iX Konis, but Koni themselves will.

i emailed him about GC for my ix, and he knows his stuff for one and two based on the response i got i would certainly do business w/ him. Very informative and really looking for customer satisfaction and not just a sale. i have not bought anything but i can recommend him based on my experience thus far. Ix koni's should do the job unless you go with crazy spring rates. wasn't it decided that koni sa's were good for up to like 550lb springs?

no, you want stiffer rear springs, unless you like understeer. ;)

btw I've been conversing with scott for several years, he's a good guy.

You're absolutely right, I didn't think that through before posting.

You will want to up your front rates quite a bit over a RWD E30, but you will also want to do even moreso with the rear. If you want the front 425 (the lowest rate I'd recommend given the heavy front axle), get at least 550 in the back.

I have been talking to him over the past day and he just asked me what my brother would be doing with his car. I told him the car would be used for 60% street and 40% track so we will se what he thinks would be good spring rates. He also said that GC would revalve the koni's for the ix which is good. I will keep everyone updated on this project. I am now thinking of yanking my H&R's off and getting this set up myself.

i am thinking much the same but its a good bit of money to spend. do the camber plates work on the ix? I would guess that you can use them because they just work like strut mounts but the ix may be different.

I don't think the camber plates will work, the strut bearings on the ix are very different. as far as the GC springs and perches, $350 or so isn't much more than H&R sports (assuming you already have konis), and you get adjustablility for the winter and the ability to use any spring rate you want.

unforuntely i don't have koni's and the bilsteins don't do all that well with h and r sports, but they work. about the camber plates you can't drop the car enough for that to matter anyway, sort of a waste of money i guess.
