Yeah, That is what happened to me. I bought new top mounts and installed some drop hats at the same time. I still felt it needed to be lower, so I cut a half coil. I might go back for more, but I'm ok with the height at current.

I think cutting half a coil causes the spring to seat bad and not lock into the notch in the hat or the base correctly . I would always go one full coil on a cut spring so they seat properComment

The top mounting notch for the spring can be rotated any direction you want.... so even if it is a half of a coil it'll still sit in the notch on the top and bottom if you line it up like you would anyways.Comment

I ended up not cutting the springs. I installed GC Touring camber plates which run 12mm shorter stack height than stock spring hats and mounts. It's like I put in drop hats without having drop hats!Comment
