    Boredom at work

I work at napa auto parts, i was bored, and discovered that 1966-1977 vw bug front shocks work amazingly as rear shocks for us budget minded individuals with lowering springs. This is my first post ever

yes they are 16.75" extended whereas our stock ones are about 20" i think? im running them on mine with eibach pro kit springs. at this height the shocks are almost fully extended and only droop about 1/2 an inch when the car is jacked up

dude, great first post. Everyone is always looking for cheaper/more alternatives to expensive rear shocks.

Only problem I see is the actual weight of a bugs front end. The entire car weighs like 1600lbs with most of that weight on the rear.

          How stiff are the shocks?

They are very affordable I got mine at about $19 bucks each I figured why not? I thought they might be kind of sketchy because the weight differences too, but they're actually pretty stiff! Im happy with them so far

I would say a shock that is 3.25" shorter than stock is too short. The Eibach spring is no more than a 2" drop.

                  Matt is right.

90% of shock absorbers have a "sweet spot". Using these shocks is putting the shock at the very top of its travel range. That may cause a problem.

I'd still be interested in trying them though lol.

Why don't you do some more investigation and see if there are any other shocks that would work for our applications but not be THAT much shorter. I'd say 2" is about the max you'd want the shock to be shorter than the stock shock.
