How do you remove the front struts?

i have the springs off and everything. i can't really figure out how to unscrew the strut. it looks like you need a special tool. i'm pretty sure you do.

any suggestions on what to use from people that have done it? i tried using a pipe wrench but it doesn't grip it very well and isn't really big enough.

      Or large channel locks.

Or big flathead and a hammer if it's the style with notches.

Channel Lock Pliers work well for me.

A vise and a pipe wrench works every time. if the shocks are pooched you could try using a "little" heat nothing to hot to loosen the rust. If the shocks are reusable. Don't use heat.
