You're pompous if you feel an impact gun is necessary for tie rod ends.

I had this problem. Tried to use a regular ratchet while using the jack to hold the tie-rod bolt in place. Didn't work. Impact wrench + jack to hold in place = success.

Haha that doesn't even make sense. Plus I never said they were necessary, I just said its ghetto not to use one. Shadetree mechanic might go over easier 'round here instead of ghetto.

It does make sense if you know the meaning of the word. At any rate, all of the tie rods I've ever done I never needed air to finish it off with a jack under the joint. I also live in AZ where we have no rust or salt, maybe those that live in worse climates have a tougher time.

I did my e30's suspension last week and spend 2 days hammering the tie rods. I used a pry bar, and still nothing. What I ended up doing was hammering it while spraying it with lubricants. It eventually gave way...

The definition of pompous does not apply to taking off ball joints with air or not. Air isn't a luxury. Air is the smartest way to tackle suspension and steering components. Anyone who works on cars for a living knows this.

You're correct, taking balljoints off with air isn't pompous. Stating that there's only one way to do it and considering anyone else who doesn't "ghetto", is a pompous way of thinking.
