REPLACING MY STEERING RACK TO AN E36 ONE, lets clear some things up

Right now i have ps fluid leaking pretty often. The ps fluid looks to be coming from the hoses because its wet right where it meets the rack and the hoses are wet all the way down. I was about to replcae the hoses but i just sourced an e36 rack for cheap so im going to do it with the rack.

Question is do i get regular e30 pressure hose or ones meant for the e36? IIRC i heard somewhere that i may need longer hoses becaue the e36 rack is slightly different where the hose meets it. I guess it would be the same for where it goes into the ps pump tho.lol

    Thanks for the help
m20 is plenty. im simply a drifter.

I still need to figure out a permanent solution for the high pressure hose. I bent mine and it fits, but all I can say about the final result and routing of the line is that it is "creative".

If the line isn't kinked or in danger of being caught by road debris. If the line maintains a seal and there isn't abnormal tension on the rubber hose. If all of these things are true there is no reason to change the line.

Noob question, what are the benefits of an E36/E36 M3 steering rack?

The steering is more responsive. I have read that the e30 rack is either 4.0 or 4.1 turns lock to lock and the E36 is 3.2/3.0 (the M3 rack is supposed to be progressive, slower on center then quicker as you turn more) and the Z3 is supposed to be 2.7 turns lock to lock.

It is so much more fun to drive with responsive steering.

If you have ever driven a 2006+ Honda Civic or a Z3 then you understand how much fun quick steering is.

One of the best mods you can do. E30 racks fell like a buss compared to e36/z3 stuff.

                  I prefer the 95' e36 m3 - it's not so twitchy on center.

Hello from 2016. Now its my turn to swap my steering rack. Would bending the high pressure hose make it more susceptible to leaking?

Or should I play safe and just order e36 high pressure hose for my z3 steering rack swap?

                      Thanks,
                      Marcus

Bending it won't hurt it, as long as you don't kink it.

I used an e30 high pressure hose, fit with little to no bending at all.
