    E36 steering rack?

I know there are alot of threads on this but I don't think any ask this certain question.
Okay so when I removed my tie rods on my 318is I took off the tie rods by undoing the self locking nut. What I want to know is if I replace the steering rack with a E36 one can I use the tie rods directly to the E36 one.
Will the old E30 tie rods go into the new E36 steering rack without any modifications. If this is the case then I can save a ton of money on the new steering rack. Plus I have been looking for the DIY write up on E36 rack swap, but I can't find any with pics. Any help is appreciated.

You can use e30 or e36 but you have to use the whole tie rod of which ever style you choose.

So you mean from the 4 sided locking thread all the way to the ball joint. This shouldn't be a problem as my tire rods are really good

Yes, everything that is removable from the rack itself.

I just installed an e36 rack on my 84 318i last weekend. I used the complete tie rod from my 318i (w new boots) and the reinforced lock washers from the e36. I also kept my hoses as they had no hard pipe to bend so were a no brainer to install.

            This should help

I had intended to replace the reservoir as there is a filter in it (recommended interval is said to be 75-100k I believe), but it was left off my original shipment so was not on hand when I took everything apart. My old reservoir was so clean that I gave it a flush and reused it. For $21 I would rather have used the new one instead of having it as a spare, but Im fine with how things are.
