nothing to worry about, unless you weld crappy or your welder welds like crap... get someone that is confident, heat the cast, and make sure its clean.... let air cool after welding...

If you're really tripping, you can put in extra stiffening/brackets to strengthen... I didn't, I trust my welds.

out of interest, would anyone have the instructions to determine how much of the strut to remove before welding?

            LOL

You're supposed to leave 50mm of the original strut housing on there.

Ryan, where did you get your BC's?

                I love my BC's..:o

                Got em from http://www.circuitmotorsports.net/

Give em a call and talk to Tristian, cost about 995? or so, whatever spring rate you want, even comes with the extenders for the rear so if you run the rear covers in your trunk you dont have to remove them to adjust dampening. Had em in about 3 days. Also they were great when it came to answering emails and phone calls...sometimes id forget and call at 8pm and he would still be there answering phones, even was going back and fourth with emails at nearly 1am in the morning.

hey, what do you know? shocks are just shocks, they don't have any effect on handling or ride quality at all. and apparently, you can magically remove 3" of suspension height without losing any travel. amazing!

I have one question. How low do you want to go? Bcs will lay frame. Gcs will not and will ride like dick/blow konis once super low.

that depends on so many factors!

the length of your strut inserts
how long the remaining housings are after you modify them
the length of the springs you choose
                          where you weld the perches
stack height of your strut mounts
                          bump stop length

saying you can't go low with GC is idiotic. it will go as low as you want to build it for. blowing konis? what random chinese shit is inside the BC kit? who makes the inserts? how many people have 100,000 miles on a BC strut insert? Bueller?

besides, if all you want is a dumped ride that "lays the frame" - it's going to handle like shit anyway (yay roll centers and camber curves!). Just take out the springs and put some 2x4s in there, it will handle about as well.

Based on what? Just because they are made overseas? There are many good companies that have suspensions parts made there. Teins are made in Korea but are still a very stout suspension set up.

Stop looking like an arse just because you dont understand how the product works.

Spring height adjustments result in preload only as you are adjusting the bottom spring hat upwards towards the top hat, it doesnt change ride height at all. Inside the strut the threaded section is basically just a tube around the outside of the shock, so when you wind the WHOLE strut into the bottom section that is welded to the stub axle, you dont actually move or reposition where the piston is sitting inside the shock. You could wind it all the way to the bottom of its travel and its still sitting in the same place as you arent actually compressing the shock OR the spring. You are essentially winding the stub axle up into the strut body, so shortening the distance of the tube between the shock and the bottom of the stub axle.
