Especially if you want a product that is ready to bolt in. That's the way to go. Just put your front end on. Slide the hubs on, brakes, rotors, etc. It's not hard. Im going to be doing mine this week.

Powder coated in what ever color you like too. No messing around!

What are the downsides of running GAZ coil overs? I know reinforcements need to be done to the rear shock towers but besides that, what? Is there a benefit to running a "true" coil over vs the OE separate spring and shock?

^^ ARGHHH! lol people need to read more carefully and be more clear with terminology :P

RobE30 (and sofargone561) - the term 'coilover' technically refers to a spring on a shock. Thus with E30s, they don't technically have 'coilovers' all round as the rear is a separate spring and shock. However, as this is the factory design, the rear shock towers are not strong enough to handle a 'true coilover' rear like in the front. However, pretty much EVERYONE who says 'coilovers' when referring to E30 means coilover front, seperate rear. That said, rear is still adjustable because the new rear 'coilover' kit gives you an adjustable shock absorber (adjustable for height from the base mount & damping from the top), and a spring with adjustable collars that mount underneath it so you can adjust height there too.

With GAZ, they offer you the option of a true rear coilover for E30s. But they can also do the same as Ground Control and give you a separate spring and shock, no issue either way.

you don't need to reinforce anything with separate spring and shock, with true coilover in rear you do need to do significant strengtehning to stop the towers twisting. also you end up with less inner clearance as the spring is around the shock behind the wheel.

This thread has gotten me pretty damn excited for when I finally get my GC coilovers. It'll be a while, though.

I understand the separate spring from the shock idea. I just wanted to know if there was any benefit to running a true coilover. I didn't consider the fact that you'd loose clearance btwn the tire and shock, good point. Now that my e30 isn't my DD, I'm considering doing some major upgrades w the possibilty of doing some track time. After driving my friends R32 street legal race car, I've decided that my car needs some upgrades!
