Still fail to see the downside to this? 100lbs more rate and a nice drop for zero cost. Someone convince me not to do this.
Well, when I paired these chopped springs with my drophats, it was quickly apparent that I was suffering in terms of shock travel, but I didn't really care. I just tried to drive around bumps that I could as it sounded and felt like it was bottoming out, even over mediumish bumps on the street. While on track, I felt that I had to adjust my lines just to avoid bumps like concrete>pavement changes and such. I feel like I know my car would have been faster if I could have raised it an inch.
I also didn't like that the difference between the front and rear rates were now much closer to each other. It was hard to get the car to rotate, even under braking/trailing brake situations.
but you had it paired with drop hats? I would keep the stock hats. I was actually thinking about running thicker spring pads up front when I cut the springs so I can get more rate but only drop it about 1".

How many coils did you cut?
How much drop did it give?
Only one coil cut. Not sure on the drop, never measured. But it certainly wasn't an inch. Half that maybe...
May or may not be relevant but I cut a coil off my ie3`s with no problem. It is VERY stiff but I like it that way. I am running billy sport struts and tokico gas adjust shocks and it is very "because race car". Ie`s and h&rs have the same rates and near identical drops.
