1.9l Rack question with pictures - Quick One

So I bought this -



for a new Slick top Project that has yet to be disclosed, however my question arrose today when I received it.

Check out these two pictures, It seems as if it is un-threaded or loose? To the touch it is tight and solid as a rock, im just curious if anyone has an answer here.

Is this normal? also, How do I check if it truly a 2.7? Can I put vice-grips on the spline and spin? I just dont want to damage it at all

You should be able to turn the steering shaft 2.7 turns lock to lock, if that's what they are supposed to be. Do not put a vice grips on the splines, you'll crush them. If there is a non-splined portion of the shaft that you can get a vice-grips on, go for it.


Just did a google search for images of that rack... looks the same as all the rest as far as that gap.
