    ST & GC Spring questions

Does anyone have experience with Suspension Techniques springs for the e30?

I can't find much information on these as far as drop and rates. I read somewhere that they are an off shoot of KW and now make the springs that KW is no longer interested in. Anyone know if they are linear or progressive? I believe there are two different versions.

Secondly, I'm tempted to order some of the GC springs with the adjustable ride height threads. Will these work with the Bilstein 'evo' shocks that are custom valved and shortened to go with J Stock springs?

Essentailly I'm looking for a streetable spring that will work with the aforementioned Bilsteins and lower the car 1.5-2.0 inches. A medium-stiff progressive would be ideal but I'm not opposed to some custom linear springs like the ground controls IF they'll work with my struts.

I've just purchased an awesome e30 with the j-stock suspension and I'm a little concerned that the springs might be too much to daily drive on sh!tty canadian roads.

I've also considered the IE stage 3's but I'm not a huge fan of the high front end and I'm not keen on cutting coils.

    Thanks for your input fellas!

I had STs for awhile. They worked pretty good with my Bilstein Sports, handled and felt great, but I was told I was basically riding on the bumpstops because they give close to a 2" drop. They are hard to find still available, but I recall coming across some online.

But basically if you go any lower than like an H&R Sport spring then you should shorten your housings and run a short body strut insert with a matching spring rate. Otherwise you'll be riding bumpstops like I was. As for the Bilstein 'evo' shocks though, I don't know.

Thanks for the insight coreyw. The turner "evo" Bilstien shocks are fortunately exactly what you mentioned. The ST's sound pretty nice....now if I could actually find some.

Does anyone know if H&R race springs are linear or progressive? I seem to notice a lot of used ones for sale which makes me think people don't exactly love them...

Actually you guys are talking about two different "shorts".

CoreyW is talking about actually a shorter strut insert, that fits into a shorter strut housing and allows more suspension travel over bumps. It is shorter than regular when the car is on the ground.

Johnjohnsons54 Turner evo is a regular length Bilstein, for a regular length housing, and is shorter only when drooped (as in hanging on jackstands). It is regular length when the car is on the ground.

Thanks for the clarification hellabad. I won't actually see the car until sunday and I have apparently misinterpreted the description on turners site!

Anybody have an opinion on how the revalved turner bilstein struts might work in combination with IE stage 3 springs or some streetable GC springs like 375f, 500r?
