Help: Am I totally F'ed? CABs

So thought I'd attempt to change the CAB's. I started and this was the result. Its heading over to the BMW mechanic to have them finished up but will he be able to get this out? The head sheared off the bolt.

drill out that bolt and tap in a new thread or make a cut in it and try to screw it out with a flathead. good luck

That can probably be removed with a left hand twist drill. The trick is to start the drill centered on the stub of the bolt.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        What Jim said.

To make it a little easier, get a really small drill bit and start that in the very center. It will be much easier to get the left handed bit started. If you don't have a smaller drill bit, a center punch will do the trick as well.

Those are easier because they are just studs that seat in tge body. As long as part of the subframe aluminum sleeve didn't break off too, its as easy as getting a hammer and punch and driving the stud up toward the interior of the car.

The same technique will work. I've done that before. Once you get the stub out, run a thread chasing tap in to all of the bolt positions and use grease on the bolts to keep moisture out of the threads.

I remember Jim saying this just when I was getting too much resistance bolting in a lollipop so I stopped and went to get a tap. Based on the crap that came out Im sure that saved me from shearing the bolt.

An M10 1.5 tap also does the head bolt holes so should be on everyone's list of essential tools and is a bargain at $4.50 from Grainger.

These spiral flute extractors have saved my ass many times. Just drill a shallow hole in the offending stud and put the extractor in. The extractor will bit into the walls of the hole and pull out the stud.
