What are my shock/damper options for lowered car with comfort in mind

I'm starting to see shocks in my dreams from researching this crap so much. I want a suspension that rides as close to stock as possible with about a 1.5" drop. I have the springs I just need the shocks! I would like bilsteins for the reliability but I'm not sure I would like the ride. The car is my daily ride and will likely not see very many tracks/autox events.

Take an inch out of the front internal bump stops. Ride quality will be great with the Bilsteins.

But isn't it more a valving issue that affects ride quality?

I really want to try kybs since the springs I have aren't too stiff (st sportech)but 1.5"s is gonna be too much drop for those shocks for sure. I just want something smooth but not too soft to cause the car to become bouncy.

Bilsteins. They are valved for 350lb/in rate springs (as I was told by bilstein)

They will be great. with your springs.

You want to revalve once you start getting up toward higher spring rates, or when you want the best handling possible. Revalve cost about $75 per shock I believe. For a stock DD, I would not fret.

I'd use Koni Sport Adjustable shocks with the initial setting full soft or at most one turn from full soft.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

No the Bilsteins reputedly ride like crap because they are all over the bump stops with a typical mild spring. They are actually very softly valved.

E30 or other? Seeing the Camaro shocks thread has me wondering if there's a better option for a lowered suspension car.

As a point of reference I have my Koni SA's set roughly in the middle. With the H&R Sports I put in place of the stock MTech springs there's a significant increase in overall stiffness, though there's also a marked improvement in cornering.

That said, to get as close to the stock feel I agree with Jim on the settings. I would probably consider dialing mine slightly softer if I were DD'ing the car.

Thats some good info though thanks dude. But aren't these shocks, sports atleast, designed for a lowered car?

The alteration for lowering was a longer droop spacer. They don't extend as much so the springs don't fall out in the back and they don't run into TUV issues with the spring coming unseated up front. They didn't make any changes that actually make a difference to the way the car drives.
