    ground controls

Hello, I'm about to buy ground controls Coilover Conversion Kit for my daily and I've been looking around to find what would be the best spring rate for me, but I just got confused with all of the shock revalving and stuff, and I'm hoping someone could help me out, i have 91 318i with bilstein sports

Your shocks do not have to be revalved, but it is recommended, and it is recommended for maximum performance.

I am going to go with 550/700 probabaly because I am wanting to have a stiff ride, and since I am going to lower on 17" I do not want to rub at any time.

If you are buying for your DD I would suggest something a little lower like 450/600, but that is entirely up to you.

P.S. Revlaving will cost you about $350, and bilstein has been known to take 2+ months to do a revalve.

I would recommend trying to ride in a locals car with rates that you are considering.

Just Called GC and apparently there is issues running them with bilsteins because of the inverted design and internal bumpstops.

Any one had experience with GC/Bilstein? Is there a way to shorten the bump stops by taking the strut apart?

              thx

People run them with Bilsteins all the time!

Yes, many people open up the front strut cartridge and cut 1/3 of the bumpstop off. I did this on my own car and it has been great. I am not on coils though.

you realistically want your sports to be revalved for those rates. they can shorten the tubes and cut the bump stops too, and even the rods, if you like.

it's not that expensive. but I'm willing to bet you'll like it a whole lot more. :)

unfortunately you have to send them to california. and it takes several weeks.

yeah its $65/piece. But when you factor in the initial cost, the re-valve and the Gc's you're up over a grand anyway and still non adjustable. :curse:

im sure the revalve will ride better, especially with shortened tubes. but more $$$ again! thx nando

                            adjustable = pointless

I've had adjustable konis for almost 10 years, and I've adjusted them maybe.. twice. I'd rather have something that out of the box matches my rates exactly.

                              Very true.

                              Full stiff up front.
                              Full soft in the rear.
I tried alittle stiffer in the back but it just felt ultra tail happy. Unstable.
