HAving problems putting in my steering rack and shaft

Hey guys i recently took out my rack and pinion and got it rebuilt. I got new tie rods etcccc.... but im trying to put it in i got the shaft on but wen im trying to get the rack on the brackets it sit onb i cant get the bolt in to hold it up. The shaft wont let me have any play so i cant align it and get the bolt in. Any tips or answers? please and thank you :up::up:

I'm not sure what you mean by "shaft" but I'm willing to bet the knuckle is binding on 1 of the splines. Unbolt the drivers side of the rack, REMOVE the lower knuckle retaining bolt, install the knuckle on the upper end (do not tighten it) THEN using the passenger side rack mounting bolt as a pivot move the rack towards the firewall as you slide the lower knuckle on to the only place where the bolt will slide through. Reinstall the drivers side rack mounting bolt,THEN position the upper knuckle and tighten it.

I suggest never seize on the splines.

Yeah by shaft i meant steering shaft/knuckle. I'm going to try what you just insisted. thanks for the help man

I'm not insisting on anything, but if you do it any other way make sure you have lots of valium and alcohol handy :pimp:

that happened to me when i swapped racks it was a pain in the ass but, had to remove the rod that goes into the knucle and column and installed it on the rack and then installed it on the column need to people to do it though
