    318is GC Spring Rates

I have a 91' 318is and I might be getting some GC coilovers soon. The lowest I can go in the back is 650 so what would be good for the front? There is tons of oppinons on the 6's like running 550/650 so what would be best for my 4? Would a 475/650 be neutral for the m42? 2002maniac how does it handle? I need to decide asap so take it away!!

why don't you call GC and ask them? I'm sure they will know more about their suspension than most people here.

I'm curious, why must you have 650 in the rear?

k..I just called them and they said that 550/650 should be pretty neutral for the 318is. Does that sound right? b/c that is what most of the 325's are running here and the m42 does not weigh as much as a m20. I didn't sound like he was typing and looking anything up...he just said 550/650 sounded good. Anyone got any personal experience w/ gc's on a 318is?

thanks again for all the help

550/650? Sounds pretty damn stiff! I know some guys run high spring rates like that, but aren't their cars track oriented?

I have 300/500 on my 318is, and I wouldn't go much stiffer if it's a daily driver. As it is, it's not fun driving through bumpy roads.

well...w/ the group buy the lowest rear spring rate is 650 so I don't really have much choice to go softer ;) I do auto-x my car as well as street it but I'm not too worried about a harsh ride.

how does it drive...neural..over or understeer? I don't know a ton about the rates thats why I'm asking but that seems like it would not be neutral.

well is 650 something that you 'want' or something you are forced to want without a choice?
I don't know how much you are saving, but probably not anymore than 50-75 bucks I assume. You should just get what you want and pay up. It's cheaper than having to buy new springs later on.

I'm sure there are others with a 318is running GC Coils. Even my 'waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles-spring-rate' is as stiff as, or stiffer than most other race springs, so I don't see why people want anything stiffer for a daily driver.

well my car is a dd/auto-x car...I would like to do some track events though. I don't know a ton about spring rates so I don't know "how" stiff 650 is other than really stiff ;) I have bav suto springs right know..does anyone know what rates those are just as a comparison. and like I said I'm not really worried about a harsh ride...I just don't want it to hurt (ie rip apart) the car.

                              thanks for the help guys,
