IX Bilstein HD for coilover conversion, do I need different gland nuts?

Hey guys, I'm getting all the parts ready to build some coilovers and I was wondering if I'll need a special gland nut to install my IX Bilstein HD's. I've read that Bilsteins require different ones, but I didn't find any info on these specific ones. Strut housings will be shortened 1.5"

This is for a '91 318is and I'll be running a GC kit, 440f/650r if that matters.

    Any help is appreciated.

The Bilstein gland nut is coilover compatible.

Bilsteins need a different nut because they are inverted.

The gland nuts come with the bilstein cartridges (inserts).
Stock BOGE gland nuts do not work.

Thank you for the responses everyone, glad that they come with the new inserts.

How are the IX HD's holding up? Are they revalved or original? I've been told that they won't really work too well but I've also heard they're awesome. It's hard to be confident with all this conflicting info.

So can I be confident that my IX HD's will hold up with a 6" 440 in the front with 1.5" sectioned housings?

Yes you should be. Remove the cap on the bottom when you get them and cut the bump stop in half. For more shock travel.

what do you mean by cap on the bottom? I see a metal "cap" sort of thing on the bottom of the strut insert but it doesn't really look removable.

The cap on the bottom, you can remove it (I put the bottom in a vice and just spun the shock body). Once you pop it out you will be able to see the rubber bump stop. I cut mine in half, as long as you leave alt least 1/3 of it there you should be fine.

Im running stock IX HDs, it is very solid with 450lb springs but is far better than my old setup. Id say it might be a bit more compliant with proper valving, but @ the $100/each i paid for the shocks, i figure ill just run them until they cause an issue then possibly find something with better valving...

I'll have to check that out, thanks so much for all the info. Do you use yours for track or street? Mine's strictly street and I'm wondering how the ride quality is going to be

                    It's even easier than that.

Flip the insert upside down, hold the damper by the yellow portion of the body, and ON CARPET, give it a firm tap on the carpet. The cap will pop right out and expose the bumpstop.

By give it a firm tap on the carpet, do you mean take the whole strut assembly upside down and jam it into the carpet so it lightly compresses the strut but with a lot of force, or tap the cap itself, or compress the strut completely until it's hitting the bumpstop and causes it to pop out?

Hold it by the yellow strut tube cover and push/tap the Allen end against the ground, the cap should separate from the yellow section revealing the bumpstop.

Alternatively, use a paint scraper to gently separate the bottom cap from the yellow section

Also, its not going to be the cap that comes off, it will be the yellow portion that slides up.
