    Broken rear sway bar brackets?

    Hi Guys,

    I'm changing the rear crossmember in my E30 and was thinking about re-using the factory sway bar mounts on the new crossmember, then it occurred to me that these might be best to be upgraded whilst I have the opportunity.

    I know the TA brackets crack, but are the body brackets usually an issue? I did note the IE sell some upgraded alloy blocks and an adjustable bar.

    I got he whole combo front and rear, if you get the rear it will come with bracket/ blocks and poly bushings.

      If you are using the stock sway bar, the factory configuration is okay. But if the rear sway is upgraded stronger bushing brackets and reinforcement of the mounts on the trailing arms are necessary.
      The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        Thanks Guys. I'm using E23 TA's which have a different mounting system for the links to the TA's, so not really worried about that end.

        The rear bar to the chassis I have the ability to modify/strengthen, but won't bother if it's not a weak point. I would like to use a stiffer bar down the track to moves towards a very simplistic di-dion design.

          The stock mounts don't usually have an issue with stock bars.

          I'm not sure how you'd use a swaybar with a de Dion rear end, but at that point you'd be basically back-halfing the car, so the swaybar would be the least of your concerns anyway. What is your plan there?

          What are you doing with the e23 trailing arms? Are they the same in regards to mounting as e30 arms, with different geometry?

            It won't be di-dion, but an infinitely stiff rear bar would act in a similar fashion.

            The e23 was by accident when I was chasing an E28 rear end but ended up with the e23. It has a MUCH stronger crossmember, had the top mount diff, works with ET38 rear wheels for slightly more track, has less sweep angle (like the M3 rear end), stronger TA's, flange mount outer CV's, larger style CV's, larger brakes and also requires a coil over conversion.

            Not for the feint hearted :)

            With the large case diff, large cv's and some decent axles I should have a fairly bullet proof rear end.

            I think I will upgrade the sway mounts to some from 8mm plate with studs that use a double holed saddle. Welded straight to the 35x65x2.5 RHS rear crossmember it should last.
