Coilovers: Megan vs. Ksport - 45mm vs. 51mm

    Hi,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of coilovers for my '89 Vert.
I've seen a few post where people say that with Megans the rear doesn't sit level from driver to passenger side which is a bit freaky... But I like the fact that the Megans go super low.

Also, what is the difference between the 45mm and the 51mm versions? How does it impact the ride quality and/or height of the car?

I can't seem to find a convertible specific set like some users mentioned.

Would you go for Megan or Ksport?

Thanks for helping me figure this out!

    K.

You'll want the 51mm versions. 45mm won't fit your car.

      I would go with BC.

I am really resisting the urge to troll you and suggest Racelands.

If you want real suspension, skip the chinese crap. If you want to know which of those two brands is better, my answer is that I don't care and you shouldn't either.

            lolz!

Ok but isn't Megan an American made product?
So you all seem to prefer GroundControl but what's BC?
Any deals out there for GroudControl? I'm not looking to spend $2500 on a suspensinon for a car I'll drive less than 50 hours per year...

I say D2. You can go as low as you'd like and its a very comfy ride. Chinese or not, it has done good by me for the better part of 3 years. Daily driving too BTW.

I think so but I don't see where it says that it's the Convertible specific version.

As far as coil overs go, you don't need vert specific. As long as they are for the 51mm struts.

I was told that you need a a vert specific kit because the rear is heavier...

D2 = Ksport = CRX = other janky coilover brands. BC is on that list too but they are slightly thicker so they are slightly less janky. The two you are trying to pick between are the exact same shock made by the same supplier so just pick which color you like better - green or orange. Cheapo shocks like these are fine for street driving and sitting pretty, anything more and I would save for something better.

Those megans do look really cool though.

GC you get a name brand and real shocks for the same price.
                            can't beat that.

I think if you tell them it's for a vert and what you want they
set you up with the right spring rates. Or no?

You don't have to spend $2500 either.... try again.
