"I rebuilt my rack . . .a 1995 m3 rack . . . its not hard you can buy a kit from your local bmw stearlership in order to rebuild it. Kit cost=$68
However, invest in a good set of picks and seal pullers= $20
Your best bet, buy a rack off of car-part.com and just throw it in there, find a low mileage e36 rack and covert from your e30 rack to e36 . . .much more reliable here is a write up complete with pics and parts needed
I found a E36 3.2 turn lock to lock rack not 15 miles from my house for $150.00 and it only had 51,000 miles on it. And I love those snap ring pliers every time I see one and think back to using screw drivers and such on them.
