    JOM driftability

hey guys, since I'm a poor-as-fuck high school student, but I am very much interested in drifting, ofcourse I have heard of and have considered JOM and TA Technix coilovers because ''lo-budget, y0!'' :D :D :D :D
seriously though - are those cheap coils stiff enough for drifting? would they work ''okay''? I like the fact that they're adjustable (even if it's just height) and I can't afford Bilstein B6 or something in that price range. if JOM or TA coils are complete bullshit for drifting, then what would you suggest for about 300 or so € (about 400$ I think)? thanks in advance! :)
edit: just for the record - I'm not aiming for huge leagues, I just want the car to handle good and predictable and I want to be able to practice and maybe compete in some local events

no. They are soft. you will have lots of body roll! While they're not bad to daily on, they just can't handle much more than that

couldn't that be fixed with stiffer springs, though?

Yes and no. Even the shocks are soft. Average lifespan is about a year to 2 on the shocks too. If you're on a budget, research the Camaro rears and Mr2 front application

Struts need to be matched to the springs, so if you go to heavier springs, you will need more dampening. If you don't, you will end up with a very bouncy ride.

go to college, get a degree, get a good paying career, and buy legit suspension for your car. im saying this cuz im doing the exact same thing lol. i have joms, and they are good for daily driving, but you will have a lot of body roll if you try to drift. trust me, i tried and failed miserably.

Just hunt around for some used stuff from a name brand. Bilstein Sport or Koni and H&R Race should get you started and if you want more adjustability, find a used GC setup. Just keep in mind that a coilover setup needs to be corner balanced by a competent shop every time you change the ride height, otherwise the handling will suffer.

since when does body roll cause you to fail at drifting. When I was poor I hammered a bone stock 240sx with a welded diff. Still had a blast. Still killed it. You can drift on stock suspension.

no you failed because you need more practice. Go on youtube, watch the drift bible like its 2006 all over again then get in your car and try again.

make sure your car is not all fubar'd up before you do this. It needs to be well maintained.

                            stay safe op.

I'm similar to you in age and I am also a passionate r3ver, Get swaybars before you do coilovers, I understand you want to look "mad tyte yoo" but sway bars will effect how the car handles almost as much as coils. Also how about some weight reduction or a set of rear tires for the track?
