    Rear Bilstein Sport shocks leaking?

    Aloha,

In October i realized it was time to replace my aging 20 year old suspension in the E30, both front and rear, at the same time it was a perfect opportunity to throw some lowering H&R springs on all four corners. So long story short I did a overhaul on the old girl, everything went smoothly and she was back on the ground in no time, drove her since then almost every day including a track day and close to 5K miles. Fast forward to today and i have pulled my motor to do some maintenance and a 5 speed swap and I was looking around the rear end and to my surprise my previously sparkling yellow Bilsteins were coated with oil and road grime, but there was no leaking anywhere in the rear end (everything was dry)

Here is a picture of the car shortly after the install 4 months ago.

And then here they are today in all there glory..

What ya think? should i take them back to the company i got them from? were they installed wrong?

The fronts looked perfect so its only showing oil on the 2 rear.

    Thanks!

There has been some leakage from the shocks, but they don't look wet. Clean them off and run the car for 5k or so and then see if they have oil on them. If they do, warranty them.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

You should have the blue protective dust/bellow boots installed over them to prevent dust/dirt etc... from attaching to the piston rod and scratching and tearing the seals. If they are leaking that could be your issue.

Do your front have the blue dust/bellow protective boots like they're suppose too?

Bilstein told me the boots were not required fwiw and the blue bellow goes in the front. The rears just use the stock black dust shield

The dust covers won't make any difference, especially at 5k. Either the seals leak or they don't.

Thanks yall, when i put them on i had a coworker (BMW tech) look over my work and said he has never seen a differnce with or without dust covers, so i just ran them by themselfs. Ill give them a second chance and run them a couple more months and check back!

Thank you for the quick response!

Sorry but I beg to differ as I've seen experienced otherwise...
