    Cleaning steering rack

So im putting my e36 m3 rack on soon and i want to clean it up a bit first.

I have gotten most of the oil/dirt residue off of the rack and cleaned it with mineral spirits but it seems its still dark and dirty, unlike some racks i have seen on here after cleaning.

Are these racks brass or some other metal that i should use a special cleaner for?

What are some products/chemicals that have worked well for cleaning these?

Degreaser and a wire brush. If you can use a pressure washer use that if not boil some hot water and throw it on after you have decreased it and scrubbed it.

They are cast aluminum. My preferred de-greaser is Super Clean. Do you have a picture of the "darkness" you are talking about?

heres what it looks like, i've seen people clean these up on build threads before looking really nice, bright aluminum/metallic shine, but i think i need to try some harsher degreaser

Brake clearner and that 'Spray Nine' or 'Super clean' products all sounds like good ideas
