E30 Cab Suspension Overhaul Parts Advice

    Hi,

I recently picked up an E30 cab and looking at the records, it does not look like any suspension work was done. The steering isn't tight, so I'm hoping this will help. The car won't see the track, looking for something OEM -- comfortable for cruising around. I have only done basic maintenance, but would like to tackle the suspension system over the course of several weekends or when I find time after work.

I have searched and that has been pretty helpful, but I want to make sure I order everything I need and have all my bases covered before getting the car up on stands - a sanity check if you will. It seems that for a DD, standard rubber bushings are recommended. It looks like there are plenty of kits available that have most of the components needed as well, but I'm having trouble deciding what to buy. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Blunttech has a kit available, but the website is not very descriptive in terms of what is included. I noticed this kit is substantially cheaper than the Stage 1 kit on Pelican Parts. Are they coming with the same things?

Pelican Parts has a Stage 1, 2, and 3 kit; I figure the Stage 1 kit should be sufficient, but my question is for an overhaul, do I need anything in addition to one of these kits? For instance, I am guessing I may need the tie rod kit they sell as well. As an aside, is it cheaper to source all the parts separately?

Is there anything else I should be replacing along with what comes in the Pelican Parts Stage 1 kit? While I have the car up, I plan on replacing the brakes, rotors, refreshing the calipers, and replacing the brake lines. Are there additional recommendations on things that I should just change out at this point if they haven't been changed yet on this car -- things like the starter motor or alternator; are these common wear items?

    Thanks!

I just got done replacing pretty much everything. I'm also local so if you want advice on what and where to get stuff, PM me.

Short list: control arms, offset control arm bushing. tierods. shocks, struts, bump stops, shock mounts. pads, rotors, brake lines.

      First, what is your budget?
Second, have you done the timing bet yet?
Third, if you are in SJ hit me up and i can help you pick out and install stuff.

      usual list
      2 front control arms
      2 front tie rods
      M3 control arm bushings
      front rubber top hats
front and rear sway bar links
      HR sport springs
full set of koni yellow SA's
      rear ruber shock mounts
      if you have money,
you can do TABs, sub frame bushings and wheel bearings
new rotors and pads are nice and can help avoid an accident.
if you drop the sub frame, do the brake lines.

all done and said, you are looking at 1000-2000 in parts
      Much wow

        Hi Cabriolet,

I expected to spend about $1k to refresh the suspension and some other things. Is it possible with that kind of budget? Obviously, the lower the better in terms of price, but I don't want to make too many compromises in terms of longevity/quality and have the parts end up breaking/failing on me. That said, if it makes sense to exceed $1k, I can do that, so I'm fairly flexible. Is there a specific reason you recommend sport springs and Koni parts?

The timing belt and water pump were done by the PO within the past 5k miles/1 year.

I'm pretty close by; I'm in Santa Clara. I'll be sure to hit you up if I need help when I begin assembling things. Thanks for the offer!

For the rotors/pads, I'll probably go with a very simple street combination. Some cheap iron rotors and I haven't yet decided on the pads yet; on my Honda, I just went with AutoZone rotors and pads and have not had any issues with them. Since I'm not planning on tracking it or driving it aggressively, I just need something that bites well when cold for daily driving; fade, I don't think, will be too big an issue for me.
