Steering rack boots clamps no workie

This is a long shot, but has anyone had any problems with the steering rack boot clamps?

I bought new Meyle steering rack boots and new Oetiker boot clamps from Bav Auto. Boots fit fine. Clamps, not so much. Neither the inner or outer boot clamps fit properly. :curse:

    Anyone else had this problem?

I think you need a special tool to crimp the clamps. Just use zipties (which is what the dealer will sell you anyhow).

you can do it without any special tools. I use a sort of wire cutter with the teeth perpendicular to the handle, worked great on my CV boots, the racks use the same sort of clamp.

I used zipties when I did mine.

Something's definitely wrong with them. The reason I know this is, that the outer clamp on the tightest setting is still way too loose.

I'm starting to wonder how well zip ties would hold up. :?

Why wouldn't they hold up? They're pretty dense plastic. It's not like they're going to melt or anything...
