    Coilover help

    Hello everybody!
    So I just bought a 91 318i yesterday.
The previous owner already had d2 coilovers installed on them, but they are completely slammed. (the car looks bagged, that's how low it is.)

So i'm attempting to raise the car up, but i've never adjusted coilovers before, and all attempts at googling it only show what im assuming to be newer generations of the coils, because they don't look quite the same as mine.

If you guys could please take a look at the picture below, and try to explain to me how to raise the car up, I would GREATLY appreciate it. BTW, this is the front driver side corner.

That big silver cog shaped nut under the spring. Screw it upwards how ever much you want to raise the car. Simple as that. There may be a set screw of some kind locking it in place, so make sure to check and loosen it before hand or you will strip the threads on the adjuster.

Look like there is suppose to be a second collar. I guess the PO want it as low as possible and took the other collar out. If that is the case, once that collar moved up, that collar won't stay in the position you adjusted to. The missing collar is suppose to lock the two collars in place.

Some collars have set screws like I described above. His may not though.

heres a pic i took earlier today. not the greatest, but you get the idea. i can only fit about 3 fingers under the lip. my low profile jack doesn't even fit under the car. I had to put wood under just to get the jack underneath.

So now that I know I cant just adjust the height, I need to totally reassemble the fronts, how do I do that exactly? On my previous car, I had somebody come out and install coils for me. But I really want to learn how to do it myself. Is there a walkthrough tutorial somewhere I can follow?

It's not hard at all if you have the tools and motivation.

just make sure you place the ones you found in the trunk under the spring. They are actually the spring perch, hence the step in the ring. The spring slides over the step to help locate it, then the other ring sits below this one to lock it in place (you tighten it up against the perch).
Just a little project im working on

Its a job worthy of a few hours of input.

The car looks pretty awesome though. I'd just keep it.. Mine looks like a 4x4 next to that lol

Believe me, I would keep it if I could. But being about an inch off the ground in a daily driver? Hell. No. haha

Just driving it to my house (which was only about 15 minutes away from where I bought it) was the scariest drive ever. Every crack in the pavement felt like a canyon, and it felt like my entire undercarriage would blow up just by running over a pebble. haha
