    Spring rates

I bought a set of megan racing coilovers about a year ago and have been running them since. I daily the car so I only do spiritited mountain driving and no track time but I would like to get the car to both CCA driving schools next year. What I have noticed is that the car under steers like hell when turning hard into the corners and I looked at my spring rates on the springs and they read out to be 10kg/mm (~559lb/in) rear and 12kg/mm (671lb/in) front. Now, I'm not an expert but I know that this is a good reason for my understeering issue. For those who daily their car and do some track days, what spring rates do you run and find comfortable? I am young so I can deal with stiff and bouncy suspension. Also for the rear what spring length is most common, 6"?

    Thanks, Zack.

I have an early model. Your rates are backwards.
In my daily sedan I am running 7 inch front springs (2 inch sectioned housings) with 450lbs/inch springs, for the rear I am running 4 inch springs with it sitting on the bottom of the adjusters. The rear rates are 625lbs/inch. I love this setup and put 60 miles a day on it. I do sit really low though, tuck a bit of tires in the rear as an early model.

4 inch springs? Holy hell that's small.

this thread has some good info.

spring rates are only part of it. you have to consider shocks, sways, tires, worn out parts, weight balance, etc.

also, since the rear is a trailing arm setup you have to consider the correct spring rate balance between the front and rear. essentially the rear is about a 2:1 ratio so whatever the current rate is you can cut that in half.

I do need to educate myself more on the way the suspension works and different methods of setting up a car. Thanks for the link! I have a few more bushings before the car has all of the suspension bushings replaced.
