yeah, maybe i'll go with the 318 springs?
if it'll drop it down more in the front. And if the rear gets too low I can
    always add additional spring pad.

A slight drop in springrate would actually be preferable as well.

    Any thoughts? on that?

If you want it lower and softer, go Eibach.

yeah, lower and softer, but don't think that means any suspect extreme..

for example, imo sports would be too soft.

and this is just the front i'm worried about. I might end up trying different front and rear springs. Not sure yet.

I'll try to hunt down some eibach e30 pics though.

i dont think you can get a smoother ride from the hr race and bilstein sport combo for the money. out of all the cars ive owned this is the smoothest most subtle ride you can ask for in sport suspension. i literally just slapped these on last night, and the car feels like it was meant to have these from the factory, minus the shorter stroke in the suspension. i cannot really imagine spending money on softer springs to be honest.

The h@r races put the oil pan at risk a lot more. Don't they?

I have sports right now but thinking about changing to races. I'm also thinking about getting h@rs 27mm front 21mm rear sway bars. Would this setup be really stiff?

what about H&R race on a vert? I am thinking race but I am worried it will sit to low in the back when the top is down.

Whether the top is up or down wont make any more difference than where people sit in your car or if you have some groceries in the back seat/trunk. Look at it, it's a few metal bars, most of which are already located near the back, and a lot of fabric. It doesn't weigh much. Cabbies on H&R race springs look damn good. I saw Dave's old vert that was on race springs when he said in the post that they were sports and I bought sports. Oops! Two years ago though. My race springs show up on Wednesday!

This is Dave's old car on race's. Stock tire size 195 65 14, spring pads installed, H&R race, bilstein sports, i presume stock bars.

If you buy the IE3's, then it very well may have reverse rake, but it wouldn't change any worse with the top up or down. It just doesn't weigh enough.

I have h&r races, but they are my softer setup, the ones I currently run are group n coils with 640 fronts, and 800 rears.
That's about what I'm sitting on: i forget specifically but it's high 500's and mid 700's respectively. They are HnR Rennen Grp G springs... and they are REALLY stiff.. but like I said in a previous post; if you're rocking some Koni's or other adjustable shock you'll be able make it pretty reasonable for daily driving.

Is there a difference in ride height between the IE Stage 3's and the H+R Race's?

If you go off of the spec sheet, no.
If you go off of information from people such as myself that have had and installed both multiple times, yes.
