    Steering column u-joints

On my 89 325is I noticed that my steering column u-joints had about a total of 1/4" slop in it. It may very well be the issue I've been trying to track down with some random sensations I've been feeling in the wheel. The steering rack is in good shape and the tie-rods and cabs are all new.

So my question is, how much slop in the u-joint is acceptable and is this something that can be tightened up or something that needs to be replaced?

    None.

    There are aftermarket options, too...

Fair does quality work. Plus, sending him money helps develop the best handling parts accessible to people like us. That and it lets him build badass cars that I get to see every once in a while when he makes the trip down from Dallas.
