    Install Question

Quick Question: How can you tell shortened koni's from regular koni's by looking at the actual strut/shock?

So my car is on cut springs. It SUCKS. They seem to be cut at slightly different heights because I can hear them twist and the car doesn't drive straight. It used to get stuck left or right, now it just goes right.

Obviously, I need some new suspension but I can't quite afford shortened koni's right now. So I was thinking about grabbing some cosmo coilovers. I am used to a bad ride already so this way at least I could drive straight and have actual springs.

I've been reading that they need to be welded though. Is this absolutely true? Because it would seem to me if I welded the cosmos to my stock struts I couldn't swap out to the koni's in the near future.

    Thanks.

Well First of all. Dont buy cosmos.

I have been riding on them for over a year now and they just suck ass.
If you are looking for a cheap drop then you already did it by cutting your springs.
I would suggest buying the GC coilovers or buy a spring like IE3 or H&R.
I noticed after time that the springs would sag really bad.
Right now my driver side rear is adjusted to about 1/2 and the passenger rear is right around 3/4.
If your going to spend the money buy good quality shit, do it once do it right and save the hassle of doing it again in the future.

I totally understand that. I had been reading that people were satisfied with the cosmos.

I'm totally for getting some ground controls. I guess I can just wait until I can aford the gorund control / koni kit. I'm just really fucking sick of the hardcore bouncing and non-straight alignment.

But back to the question, if I were to just buy ground controls now would I have to weld?

PS: bought the car on cut springs. At least there isn't massive body roll.

Unless you buy a full strut/housing/spindle assembly, you will have to weld ALL coilover kits.

Ground Controls' basic kit requires no welding.

I know some people cut and shorten their already shortened GC Koni struts though. Is this necessary for being about H&R Race low or lower.

I was thinking GC coils with the shortened Koni's. Probably similar rates to H&R Race.

Maybe you missed where I decided to spend the extra money and get some GC's. I'm actually searching for a set (used) right now.

Standard length will be a 17 inch long strut body.

Not true. You can just cut of the stock perch leaving a little ridge for the coilover sleeve to sit on.
