    Cosmo Coils Streetability/Install?

Bought some Comso coils about a month ago and they will finally be installed next monday. Now I know very little about suspension and haven't yet experienced different spring rates. The comso's seem kinda high and was wondering how the ride will be? Especially since I live in SF and we don't exactly have ideal roads for low cars. Will it be ok for a DD?

Also will the struts neet to be modified and is there welding involved? I head this is only if you really want to slam it and I don't think I'll be going this route anyways. I just want to get rid of some wheel gap and be able to adjust to different wheels/etc.

You already said your first mistake. You will want to sell them and buy something better.
I bought the cosmos when they first came out years ago and for a DD they are not good.
To install them the correct way you will have to cut the front spring perch or you will have some issues.
The ride is like riding on cut stock springs. If you go on long drives and the roads are not good where you live you will suffer from back pain.
Be ready to buy shocks and RSM's.

IF you want to read some info on the cosomo springs. Then check out this thread.

Right now to make my car level all around My rear adjuster on the pasenger side is right about 1/2 the driver side is right about 3/4 and the fronts are all fucked up as well.
All in all. I say toss them in the trash or sell them to try and make some money back...

I had them on my 318is, personally, I didn't they were bad. But then again, i have no problem with a harsh ride. All of my cars have been on stiff lowering springs. When I did have the cosmos, I ran with stock struts and shocks (uber poor, but i hate wheel gap) so it was bouncy. They'd be better if I put some sports or something in.

        But that's just me....

Car already has blisteins so it shouldn't be too bad. But so the struts always have to be modified? because even in the actual supplied cosmo install instructions it makes no mention on it?

I clicked on that thread. All I can say is there is more misinformation, and more completely incorrect math and wild assumptions than anything I have ever seen on R3V.

Read and believe that thread at your peril. Its just plain bad math.

It has nothing to do with Cosmo, or springs, or the sun, moon and stars. It is just plain completely wrong e30 info that has already been (correctly) figured out 35 years ago.

No hate at all, its just that if someone was to read that and believe it, they would be missing out.

LOL, I clicked the link and didn't even have to read the first word the OP said. That is standard in anything he gets involved in here or there...

DSP74 is a bench-racer extraordinaire and is trying to "engineer" a national-level DSP E30 out of junkyard parts and rare factory options.

Anyone who goes for Cosmo is giving up reputability of quality for marginally lower price... not something I generally like. They look Chinese made or someone making it in a back of a shop somewhere like Douchegrove/ZEN products. Good luck to anyone who actually makes use of their suspensions - like on a track.

OP - If you are worried about bad roads, go with H&R sport. They treated me pretty well (esp. with Koni SAs).

Sounds like you started buying components without researching what you actually wanted to accomplish.

I would go back and determine your goals, then develop a plan.

Yea your definitely right. It was like 2 AM after a party, and I was feeling pretty good and got a little trigger happy with my card  Iono I think I'll just give them a try for now and learn from them. The mechanic doing the install is going to teach me everything as we go, so if I don't like them in the end I'll definitely swap them out for something else.

And my goals are simple. Get rid of wheel gap and but be able to adjust for different conditions/roads/wheels/etc. Cosmos were my only choice for my price range.

The whole point of posting the link was to show you that cosmo coils suck. They are junk. I feel bad even saying that I still have them on my car.

And for the OP. Dont install them and learn from your mistakes as you go.
Learn from the people who had the experience first hand.
Dont waste your time or your money having someone install them.

Sell them and buy something more fitting.
