Mustang rear shocks

What is the deal with them? I've heard of people using them before, but I've also heard that they are the same as normal e30 shocks. Is there any benefit to them? What year mustangs did they come out of?

they physically fit, but if you read anything Jay from GC has written here you would be best to avoid them. They are designed with solid axle rear suspension in mind which requires entirely different things from an IRS setup.

I am Jay from GC, and the real reason we sell the Mustang shocks is to be able to sell something comparable. A lot of people are talking about this, and some people are talking about it "a little too much" so I just decided to offer a kit that included the Mustang shocks. That way there is nothing to left to debate. They cost a teeny bit less but imho you get less.

However, if you think about it, when GC decided a long time ago that the Mustang shock wasn't good enough, it was a big commitment to test a lot of different things (taking apart and revalving) and then throw down $$$ to get Koni to build them instead of being stuck with Mustang shocks.

So, I am a good person to get an opinion from because I have tried many different things, but I am a bad person to get an opinion from because I have made up my mind that the Mustang shocks aren't good enough.

This is further complicated by what is really on the internet, compared to fake dyno sheets that some people want you to believe.

Sorry, I had to eventually, in hopes of reducing arguments by letting people buy whatever they wanted.

I resisted but maybe it will prove to be a good idea. this way people can get comparative info from one source instead of several.

The Mustang ones are TOO soft, and they don't let you reap all the benefits of a car designed with independant suspension. (short answer)

I have never tried those. Cobra is IRS, abut I don't know if the valving is different.

Free shocks means that you HAVE to try them. Its a man-law.

I was just seeing what ways they are different from e30 shocks. I can say that looks wise, they seem to be much shorter overall.

Mustang ones are adjustable from the tops, so you can adjust them easy, and e30 koni's need to be removed from the car, and then adjusted....

kinda.. you can get E30 rears that are top adjustable, for one. also if you pull out the bump stops (which are really thin doughnut pieces of rubber) you don't tneed to remove them at all, just undo the bottom bolts, compress and turn.

I know, no bumpstops = bad but I haven't bottomed them out in 6 years and I don't intend on off-roading my car anytime soon.
