Wheels Too Wide: Can I make them less wide?

I found some awesome wheels for sale, one-piece:

But they're too wide (8"). Can I get them cut down to 7" wide?

I am thinking there must be a wheel shop out there that will cut out the middle of a wheel and weld it back together? It can't be much more difficult than properly welding on metal and then lathing it down to a smooth finish, like they do when they refinish damaged wheels.

8 is not too wide. Are they 16's?

I've seen wheels widened before.... I'm not sure if they'll take material out but I don't see why not.

They do not refinish them though.

They're 17's. And the problem is that the right size 17" tire is 215/40, which stretches a lot on 8" wide wheels.

            And?
No more than the equivalent on a 16x8.

              And I don't want stretched 215's. I want 215's with a normal sidewall.

Buy the proper sized wheel. It will cost too much to have them narrowed. It is not a great deal if you have to pay an extra $500. Either that, or run wider tires like 225/40/17 or 225/35/17 (though this one is a little too short.)

Will 215 even be that stretched... it doesn't seem like it would be. People run 205s on 9 inch wheels. That's stretched.

fail. So much so that YES I had to post 2 times in 10 minutes.

                        That is a 215 on a 18x8

Sidewall height makes a difference int he look though; that's a pretty low-profile pic. Then again, so's 17" on an e30... Get 225s or 235s. With the right offset it can work.

                              Just run 235/40's.

                              No stretch here!
