      My 215/40 Nexen N3000s run wide and are almost square shouldered on an 8" wide wheel.

      Use spacers to get to ET 25, and slap 235/40/17s on them.

        It is done all the time in the domestic world....

        Stock Marauder wheels widened:


        People also take out material to narrow stock wheels for drag use.

          for reference, the tire was a 215/35 for a 17, the OP was talking about 215/40 on an 18

          But i agree, just keep them, some 215s will be squarer than others
