Thread revive.
In the interest of keeping front tire friction down since I don't have power steering, I am thinking of running 205/50/16 Toyo R1Rs for the the front and 225/45/16 R1Rs for the back. All 4 rims would be 16x7.5.
Does anyone have experience with this sort of setup? Any disadvantages, is it visually noticeable? I am at around 300hp so the more rear width the better but I don't want the wheels looking stupid mismatched. According to a tire calculator, these two sizes have the same 4" sidewall so virtually the only difference is 0.8" of width which would be similar to running staggered rims.
Also, any handling issues with this set up?

"keeping front tire friction down" = less traction = understeer
I try to steer clear of staggered setups when handling is a concern. Other than that, it should work fine.

a 205 tire is advertised with 205 as the maximum section width of the tire, not the tread width. cheaper tires/non-performance tires tend to have a much smaller tread width than the section width, and will therefore look more stretched. a tire which has a more square shoulder because the tread width is almost as wide as the section wide will look more square, even on a wider tire. hence the R888s posted above.
my 195 snow tires have a tread width of about 165, 15% difference
my 215 dunlop direzzas had a thread width of about 205, 5% difference
this is what people are referring to when they say a tire 'runs wide'

Have you tried R1R? or Are you set on 888s? I think only the R1R is available in 225/45/16, not the 888 which is what I need at least for the rears
