    185/70 studded + lowering springs?

I've done plenty of searching for my upcoming suspension and I've narrowed my choice between H&R sports and Vogtland springs. Yes, I've done multiple searches but I have another query that goes hand in hand with my questions.

I'm running completely stock suspension...its shot and I've been waiting for enough money to accumulate to do it once and do it right. I already have control arms and new bushings ready and I'm going to order the Turner suspension mounting kit (http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...ID=E30MOUNTKIT) to go with it. I'm probably going to get H&R sport springs with the Bilstein struts, but I have recently been leaning towards Vogtland springs.

I live in New England and this is my daily driver. Because my near 20 year old suspension is shot almost anything I get now will be "stiffer" but what I'd like to know is if my winter tires will fit the springs I am looking at. I run "185/70 R14 88S" studded tires on 14" bottle caps during the winter. Will a ~1.25" drop like I'd see from H&R or the ~2" drop from the Vogtland springs give me fitment issues with the studded tires? I have late model arches, which might make a difference in your opinions.

    Thanks again R3V.

No longer stock ride height, rolling as low as a daily driver in New England should without worrying about breaking an oil pan.

Dude, I was running that same size tire (or at least something similar, may have been 185/65-14) on my studded steelies and didn't have a problem. The car's suspension was Bilstein HD's and Bavauto Lowering springs and I had zero problems.

In addition to that, my dad has H&R Sport/Bilstein Sport combo on his '89 325i 4dr., and runs Hakka 185/70/14s on basketweaves during the winter with no problems whatsoever.

        HTH man.

Just what I wanted to hear. Now I just have to decide which springs I want. I can't go too low because you know how our state is notorious for having those stupid concrete aprons leading up to some stores that are higher than the street! There's always the chance of bottoming out on the other side if there's a pot hole you don't know about. That's how my first Reiger lip died.

          Thanks a lot.

No problem. I know exactly what you mean too about the concrete. My valence is all fucked up (pushed in on either side) from this. It doesn't look bad from far away, but you can tell up close.

Lucky for me my valence is still straight...I'm just awfully cautious on those. That and my suspension is completely shot...hence why I made the post. As you know, studs really can make a difference in snow!

I have/had the Vogtland/Bilstein setup on my '87 (with the higher arches)
pretty sure I was running 185/70/14 Nokian winter tires. No rubbing issues at all.

I havent banged the oil pan or anything like that yet. (and thats after letting the gf drive it for a few months and she doesn't understand about avoiding pot holes) Love the ride height of the car.
