    BIG news...Falken Azenis RT-615 info

They're called the Azenis RT-615. They use light weight nylon sidewalls instead of steel (like the old azenis sport), and the tread compound is not supposed to get greasy when they heat like the sport does. The tech rep was telling me that they can be mounted with the large blocks on the inside of the rear rims to help produce oversteer for drifting or race tuning. They are aysemetrical and non directional, so you can rotate them front to back and side to side, and the sidewall is supposed to be as stiff (if not more) as the sport.

Yes, I believe that is the technical term greg :P

It makes sense though, the reason azenis are so cheap:
          1- limited sizing
          2- short(ish) lifespan
          3- heavy
          4- loud

if Falken does the R&D to fix all those issues, no way in hell they can keep the same pricing, even for the same sizes they already offer. At least I wouldn't think so. Hopefully the 195/60/14 and 205/50/15 and other smaller sizes will remain reasonable

Time to get my old style for auto-x this month then. Before you can't find them.

So who currently has best price on the older style.

www.vulcantire.com is the cheapest place. It took them about a month to ship my tires though.

More expensive eh? Ah well, I still plan to be an idiot and run them on my 17's next year. I was going to put new ones on the baskets and run those, but I thought I'd just kill two birds. Especially since there are more reasonable rain channels, these should be more streetable.

And Greg, surprisingly, the current gen Sport was a pretty quiet tire. Quieter than most high performance tires I've experienced.

Pretty gay that they only come in one size for 16's.

Meh, with the sidewalls on these 15" is where it's at anyways, especially with the new 225/50 size.

Sweeeet. How is a nylon sidewall going to protect the rim from damage with a really low sidewall though? Looks very interesting, I'd like to get more info on them.

                          PR crap, some informative:

Falken Tire Corp. is proud to début the next generation of RT (race tuned) Spec Sport Radials for North America and the world. Derived from a motorsport lineage that begins with Nürburgring's Nordschleife, the Super Taikyu Endurance Race Series, and world-class circuits around the globe; the World Spec Azenis RT-615 is poised to initiate the battle for Pure Sports domination.

The development of the RT-615 was spawned from the ever growing need for true motorsport level products without the inherent drawbacks of track dedicated R-Compound tires. As the OEM's continue to focus more on attitudinal tire characteristics such as NVH (noise, vibration, harshness), the availability of unorthodox sports radials has become all but non-existent. Generally speaking, premium sports customers have been forced to choose between watered down versions of flagship summer tires and limited life cycle R-compound rubber. The World Spec Azenis RT-615 signals the rebirth of truly premium Pure Sports products for discriminating sports drivers.

The World Spec Azenis RT-615 incorporates the absolute latest in design philosophy and materials. Every aspect of this project has focused on a single development objective. To create and launch a new genre of sports radials that have the credentials to attack authentic JDM brands like Yokohama Advan and Bridgestone Potenza. While we know these competitors may ultimately modify their specifications to meet US glass transition point compound standards, we are prepared to go head to head against the best in the world.

Prepare yourself for the World Spec Azenis RT-615. It will redefine the premium sports tire segment by creating an entirely new benchmark for Pure Sports performance.
Found that at Vulcan, thanks Robby.

I second that. 16" is, in my opinion, the best wheel size for an e30. I was planning on getting the Azenis Sports in 215/45 R16, I was kinda hoping these would come in that size as well. Oh well, its not like I have enough money to buy more expensive tires anyway...I just hope they don't phase out the old tires without at LEAST offering all the sizes that those tires offered.

Falken seems to really support wheel sizes of 17" and larger. I was looking on their website and didn't see one wheel that came in 16" but I think every wheel was offered in 17"
Thats fine for cars with larger stock wheels/tires, but on e30's the tire is like a rubber band around the rim, which is fine if you like that look, and I think its OK, I just don't want that little rubber on my car.

nobody gives a fuck about e30s and if they have 16s. Tire companies are in business to make money. 17s and up is where its at.
