Is 225/40 too big for a 16x9? (rear)

Anyone running 225/40 instead of 215/40 in the rear?

Are you serious? People run 235/40s on 7.5" 17" wheels all the time.

Or are you concerned about rubbing?

Way too small. I run 225 50's on a 15x7

Not at all for the rear. You will need a little bit more rolling, but height wise they will fit fine.

Well, it looks that 215x40 is the tire of choice for the 16x9 (et15) euro look. Toyo makes 225x40

I wouldn't call stretched tires a euro look personally bu I guess that's personal taste, I'd do 245 width tires on a 9 inch rim

Actually 205/45's are the preferred stretch tires for 9's. About the same amount of stretch as a 215/40 but a bit taller so it fill the wheel wells better.

215's should be fine for most drops i think 225 might require a smaller sidewall for clearance but i think it could work...

Stretched tires originated to conform to a european law (I don't remember where in europe) that stated the tread needed to be contained within the fenders. So people kept the tread in the fenders and poked the sidewall out.

I see it on both japanese and european cars, but the roots are european.

How do you figure they are too skinny? 225mm is almost exactly 9 inches wide.
