You can only remove a small amount of material. 2mm might be ok, or may push it.

Most wheels have about 10mm of material between the lowest most lug seat, and the back face of the wheel.

Remove what little material is there at your own risk.

why not roll your fenders? I run an 18x8.5 et15 in the front of my car with a 225/40/18 tire and I am not hurting... of course I have about 2 inches more clearance than you would with a stock E30 fender 8)

Those sound like LTW replicas. Am I right?

Anyways, it'll be close, but you'll be fine with that setup. If anything, extremely minor rolling would do the trick. That setup is only 2mm further out than the common 225/Ronal combo, and those guys aren't rolling.

should fit with minimal or no rubbing.

rolling the fenders will fix any issues.

cupkit on later cars looks gay IMO. My car has the early higher arches, and I slightly tuck the tire on my 17's (215/40)

cupkit on a later car = tucking wheel in the back (with 17's)

Once you have 2-3 passengers in your car forgetaboutit. You will be tucking tire in front and wheel in back.

On my 325i I had LTW E36 M3 replicas on with 215yoko paradas and I was fine without hardly any rubbing issues at all, the front rubbed once and it was under hard driving.

Machining wheels themselves sounds really really sketchy to me.
